THE ELGIN PUB, NOTTING HILL

A few weeks ago, I was invited along to review dinner at The Elgin in Notting Hill. I love reviewing places in new areas, so it was lovely to explore Notting Hill for the first time. Shocking I know!

The Elgin is a British pub with lots of history behind it. Located at 96 Ladbroke Grove, it's about a 5 minute walk from Ladbroke Grove tube station. With an original listed bar, glistening hanging chandeliers, fresh flowers and cosy seating areas inside, you're guaranteed to enjoy some fine British food classics in comfort and style.

My guest and I went along on a weekday evening and it was an evening where they had live jazz music. Our table was reserved near the front, so we had an excellent view whilst watching the jazz singers perform.

Before I even get into this review, I just want to say that the service we received was outstanding. We was made to feel very welcome from start to finish and had an excellent and friendly delivery from the waitress that served our table. She answered any questions that we had and also recommended us dishes that are either very popular or her personal favourites.

Perusing the drinks menu, both my guest and I ordered an Aperol Spritz. We had never tried this drink before, but was surprised at how nice and refreshing it was. It reminded me a lot of the taste of a sweet rose wine, but with an extra fizz from the added prosecco.

Booked in for 7pm, we got the chance to explore the dinner menu. However, they do also have separate lunch and Sunday menus.

The waiter told us that main meals are quite large and I was already set on what I wanted for my main. Therefore, we decided to share a starter which ended up being more than enough for two people to share.

We ordered a sliced duck salad to share for starters. It came with beautifully cooked slices of duck breast; with hardly any fat on the meat. It arrived on a bed of dressed, fresh salad leaves, cubes of feta cheese, sesame seeds, pine nuts and a drizzle of a honey and mustard sauce over the top. Perfect, but unfortunately not available on their seasonal menu as of right now. Gutted for you. 

For main, I just couldn't resist The Elgin burger (£13.50); with prime beef, melted cheese, ale onions, iceberg lettuce, gherkin, ketchup and mayo - crammed into a giant cream, brioche bun and served with a mountain of delicious and crunchy fries. Probably one of the best cheeseburgers I have tried in a long time. 

It definitely filled me up and I couldn't quite finish it all, so I am so glad I shared a starter! It gave me enough time to take a break from eating and snap some photographs of this pub's beautiful and cosy interiors. 

My guest went for the complete opposite, which was a recommendation from the waiter. The marinated lamb chops (£16.00) come with new baby potatoes and a grilled baby gem lettuce; which is unique to The Elgin and not found anywhere else. Everything is finished off nicely with a green sauce. Utterly delicious and smelt so good! 

Feeling very full up, we had a break and a catch up over watching the live singers performing jazz music. It was nice to kick back and forget about being in the city on a school night. They have different music themed nights, so it's definitely worth checking out their what's on page if you're thinking of visiting. 

You know me and I can never exist a sweet treat; especially when it comes to something that is either a classic favourite of mine or something I have never seen before and entices me to order. 

I ordered the panna cotta (£6.00) with vanilla ice-cream, macerated raspberries and pistachio brittle. Very naughty, but very nice. 

My guest ordered the chocolate fondant (£7.50) with Devon fudge and cream fraiche ice-cream. Even naughtier than the panna cotta and definitely something to be enjoyed when you have room for something so worth the extra calories. 

We definitely left feeling more stuffed than we have ever been before, but it was 100% worth it. The food at The Elgin is delicious and extremely well priced in my opinion. It's a perfect little hideaway in the heart of West London and super cosy for those winter nights that are upon us. Not to mention that a visit comes with an excellent service too.
