DIRTY GREAT LOVE STORY REVIEW

This week, I went along to Leicester Square to the Arts Theatre London to review a show called Dirty Great Love Story. I had never been to this theatre before, but it was actually really nice. I was given central seats on row F, which gave us the best view for the show.

I knew the basics of what the show was going to be about, but I genuinely didn't really know what to expect. I've actually been dating a very nice man and I took him along as my +1. We grabbed a cheeky Five Guys before hand and a drink and then got seated, ready for the show to begin at 19:30pm.

The show is acted out by only two actors; who actually co-wrote the whole show together. Dirty Great Love Story is pretty much what it says on the tin. A Love Story that is dirty, hilarious and ever so slightly a bit cringe.

Let's face it, if you're a twenty year old something like me, it's unlikely you have or will meet your life partner in the same way that the hot girl in the chick flick you watched at the weekend did. Guys don't pick up all your books you've dropped on the floor, girls don't turn up at football matches and catch the eye of the hot and stocky defence midfielder. Things like this just do not happen in 2017. However, I completely apologise if you actually have.

Meeting an interesting guy for me is more in the form of 101 boring Tinder conversations and 33 dick pics later; which is exactly why I loved this play and recommend you go see it before it closes at the end of this month.

Dirty Great Love Story follows the story of Katie Bonna (played by Ayesha Antoine) and Richard Marsh (played by Felix Scott), who meet in a night club. She's there for a hen night and he's there for a stag do. Katie has just broken up with her boyfriend and is drinking her sorrows away, with very little interest in all of the lingering eyes around her. Richard on the other hand, is a geeky and unconfident man who sees Katie and has an initial interest in her.

The whole story is read by both characters and follows the idea that two people who wouldn't necessarily swipe for each other, can actually fall in love and be happy together. However, there are always going to be setbacks in modernised relationships these days. Fuck buddies, side chicks, ex girlfriends and heartbreaking ex boyfriends are just some of the problems that both Katie and Richard try to deal with.

I loved this story because it's relevant and current. For someone like myself who has been online dating on and off for around 4 years, I was in stitches. I found myself mouthing 'OMG THIS' at so many things that were being said and being done.

The play lasted around 90 minutes and I enjoyed every single minute of it. I loved how the play was poetic and both characters would step out of character for a few seconds to slightly narrate the story, and then quickly jump back into character. They also both part played a different characters that were involved in Katie and Richard's story.

Tickets range between £25-£40 and the show is running until the end of March 2017. If there's one show that is a must see this year, then it's this one. There was quite a lot of older people in the audience I noticed, but I guarantee if you're a 20-something year old, you will definitely relate to this play from start to finish and leave with a smile on your face!
