ASHLLYD travels: Part 4/6

07/08/2012

We hired a car; a little bright blue automatic sazuki swift.. or our 'boy racer car' as we liked to call it! We've never hired a car on holiday before but the hotel was situated outside of the main town and  none of us fancied walking miles and miles in forty degree heat!

On the first day we decided to visit some mountains which are apparently a part of a National Geographic park. The road is not recommended to drive on as there are no safety bars alongside the edge of the road and the road is VERY narrow... meaning if we crashed, yes we would have all died. Sometimes you have to be risky though, right? The pictures really do not do any justice. They don't show how high we really were! My dad is a really good driver, so we took an extremely slow drive up the mountains which was a dirt road so it was really dusty and hazy. Pat on the back to my dad right there! ^_^ We all had to stop for a 'toilet break' which was hilariously funny trying to squat behind a bush in the middle of nowhere. They were bullets everywhere too as the locals shoot the birds, so sadly there are no birds flying around in the mountains. It's safe to say that we all ran back to the car after doing our business!

We then drove down the mountains after driving to the top. The view was stunning! As we eventually got back on the main road, we decided to visit Lara Beach. It was okay, nothing special. There was sand but stones in the sea which was a bit annoying as you had to be careful you didn't step on any dodgy ones. I was also awfully scared of possibly mistaking a stone for a crab and stepping on it!

We then took the car home and had a shortbread picnic during the journey. Cyprus really do have the best cakes and biscuits!

Two more instalments to go!

  1. Ooh, you took such great images! I wish I was going on holiday this year! I remember when I went back home, some of the roads were very narrow and there were huge lakes on both sides of the road, so we could have actually drowned if the driver wasn't careful. SO scary!

PS. I bloody love shortbread! x
